The first-semester examinations of the Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP) under Delhi University (DU) are expected to be held in the third week of November, 2013; however sample papers for the first batch of students appearing for the examinations of the newly-introduced FYUP are yet to be issued.

External assessment for the mandatory Foundation Courses as well as Applied Language Courses are expected to commence after the papers of Discipline I, otherwise called the ‘major subject’, are over.

As per officials of DU, when the semester system was introduced, sample papers were provided to assess the format of the question papers. However, sample papers for FYUP examinations are not available till date, which makes it difficult to judge the new question paper format. Moreover, the syllabus has changed too.

The modalities of the credit system is also being worked out by DU. However, the names of the associated committee members and the formula to calculate the credits are yet to be revealed, DU officials added.

As per sources, the dates for the tests have not been finalized yet. Once examinations for the Discipline Courses get over, the ones for the Foundation Courses will start.

As per DU, there are few guidelines for assessment of Foundation Courses, which state that the external examination will consist of 20 out of 75 marks. No sample papers have been issued for the external assessment as well.

As per a notification from DU, the question paper will contain adequate choices. The questions will be a test of the students’ conceptual knowledge in specific subjects. Hence rote learning or presenting facts directly from the study material are not the best ways to prepare for the tests.

The FYUP for undergraduate students has been introduced by DU for the current academic session.
